“As is often the case with faith, I thought I was being asked a favor. Actually, I was being given one”

Hi!! Happy New Year! Okay, I know it’s already too late, but originally, I wrote this to the intention of welcoming the new year hahahahahaa!

Review in English:

Before I told you about this particular book, let me get you a bit of my back story of reading this book.

Mitch Albom is one of my favorite authors. I jumped at first chance to buy his new book (or at least saving my money as fast as I can to buy his book). However, Have A Little Faith is his last book that I read and bought (compared to his other books), despite it was published in 2009. I picked it up so many times at the bookstore, only to put it back and turned to other books. Why?

Simple. Because it was about religion and faith. Moreover, not my religion. And it was a true story. I was afraid.

I was afraid it will drift me off from my own religion, Islam, and change my believe into other religion. I always thought “I’ll read this when my faith is stronger, so I wouldn’t get persuaded or anything.

As soon as I read it, you know what? I regret not reading it sooner.

It doesn’t matter, what your religion is. Have A Little Faith is not telling you to switch your religions or telling you what the best religion is. It doesn’t talk about that.

It talks about normal life, of a normal man, the reason why someone chose to dedicate his life for God, and what he thought of God and his religion. This is the story of kindness. A story about faith, and how all religion wants you to do and be good.

Have A Little Faith is telling you about 2 different men, from different religion, that you usually call a pious man. Mitch Albom himself, who at the times were not in a very religious state, rather ignorant about those kinds of things, are being requested to do these men’s eulogy. And by accepting it, he gets to know them, as a man.

As Mitch Albom said, “Picture the most pious man you know. Your priest. Your pastor. Your rabbi. Your imam.” And by reading this, you may feel like you got the chance to talk to them privately. Have A Little Faith, may be able to restore your faith. Because it did for me, as a Muslim.

A little note, though. In my opinion, reading this book requires one condition, and that is not to read it while hating some other religion. Try to open your heart, and read it as it is.

Agama. Have A Little Faith mengulas tentang agama dan iman. Tapi ternyata, justru kebalikannya.

Have A Little Faith memberi wawasan tentang 2 orang pemuka agama yang berbeda, dan alasan mereka menjalani hidup yang mereka pilih.
